Dr. Schmidtke, a native of Western Pennsylvania, graduated from the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry in 1985. He completed advanced training at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston Salem and remained on the teaching faculty there until relocating to Charlotte in 1993. He has served as the Program Director for the General Practice Residency Program at Carolinas Medical Center where he taught advanced topics in clinical dentistry.

Dr. Schmidtke has been recognized for his professional accomplishments through Fellowship in the International College of Dentists and the Academy of Dentistry International. Currently he is an active board member of the Charlotte Dental Society. He maintains professional membership in the American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, and Charlotte Dental Society.
